Numerous products for chemical biofilm control are commercially available, but not all of them have been proven effective in clinical practice. Due to emerging evidence related to increased adverse effects, the search for avenues in designing new agents for chemical control of biofilm is underway. The webinar will discuss the use of chemical plaque control in dental clinical practice. It will focus on the following aspects: Understanding mechanisms of action of oral antiseptics commonly used in dental clinical practice Evidence-based use of oral antiseptics for various clinical indications Understanding and minimizing their adverse effects Busting myths with most recent research evidence Exploring new directions in designing “rinse” of the new age

Lernziele

Global increase in aging population, retention of dentition and increased rehabilitation with complex implant supported restorations will soon increase demand for prevention and maintenance. Are the “tools and potions” for prevention and maintenance we have so far sufficient to satisfy demands of future patients? Mechanical biofilm control is mainstream in prevention of most common oral diseases; however, chemical biofilm control may be necessary to implement as an adjunct in certain cases.

    Tihana Divnic-Resnik BDS, MSc, PhD did her Master at University of Belgrade in 2007 and was a Lecturer there for 10 years. She is currently Senior Clinical Lecturer in Discipline of Periodontics at University of Sydney.
