TO BE OR NOT TO BE ELECTRIC? The fascinating world of toothbrushes and plaque control demystified

13:00 - 14:00 English

Clean teeth can’t get sick! Even though science tries very

hard to develop a toothpaste which will compensate

the inefficiency of the toothbrush, there still is no other

recognized, evidence-based alternative than plaque

reduction and disorganization.

However, despite the effort of most patients, only few fulfill

minimum criteria, such as brushing twice daily for 2 minutes

with a moderate brushing force, and without scrubbing

movements. This fact emphasizes the ongoing need for oral

hygiene education.

Together, we will explore the false myths about

toothbrushing, unveil the attributes of an ideal manual

toothbrush, as well as discover an alternative to daily

“scrubbing”. We will also determine the indications of sonic

devices and highlight whether electric toothbrushes are

superior to the manual ones.
