Prosthodontic management for partially dentate and edentate older adults

Treatment options which will be discussed include complete dentures and implant overdentures for edentate patients.  For partially dentate older adults removable partial denture treatment will be covered in addition to alternative approaches including functionally orientated tooth replacement according to the principles of the Shortened Dental Arch concept. Participants will gain an overview of prosthodontic treatment options for both edentate and partially dentate older adults.

Learning Objectives

Across the globe the population is ageing. Whilst increasing numbers of older people retain natural teeth, a sizable proportion of older people are still edentate. Replacement of missing teeth is important for function, aesthetics and to facilitate social inter-actions. This lecture will discuss treatment for edentate and partially dentate older adults including planning for removable and fixed prosthodontics.
