What is iTOP, and how does it differ from other preventive dentistry training programs?

The iTOP (Individually Trained Oral Prophylaxis) programme provides dental professionals with evidence-based strategies to help their patients achieve long-term oral health. Its practical 'Touch to Teach' approach is what sets it apart, as participants actively practise techniques and real-life clinical scenarios. This hands-on method bridges the gap between theory and practice, equipping clinicians with the confidence and skills needed to effectively guide patients in managing biofilm and developing sustainable oral hygiene habits.

Who can participate in iTOP courses?

iTOP courses are designed for oral health professionals involved in patient care. This includes all members of dental community - dentists, specialists, dental hygienists, university members and dental students. We welcome all professionals who play a role in guiding patients towards better oral health overall well-being.

What levels of iTOP courses are available, and how do they build on each other?

We offer a structured pathway: Introductory (foundational knowledge and techniques), Advanced (in depth clinical application and patient management), Recall (upgrade and refresh the knowledge) and Educator (train-the-trainer for teaching the practical techniques used in iTOP). Each level builds on the previous, ensuring progressive mastery. To continue the learning path.

How does iTOP certification benefit me as a professional and my clinic?

iTOP certification doesn’t just elevate your clinic—it enhances your skills, confidence, and professional reputation. By mastering the iTOP methodology, you can provide patients with personalized, evidence-based care that truly makes a difference in their oral health. Certification also helps you stand out from peers, build stronger patient trust, and achieve better treatment outcomes, turning your expertise into a tangible advantage for both your practice and your patients.

Is it possible to arrange iTOP certification for the team working at my clinic?

Certification involves staff completing the relevant iTOP course levels, implementing the iTOP system in daily practice, and maintaining a focus on patient motivation and preventive care. Curaden Academy provides guidance throughout the process, working in collaboration with our education managers and certified iTOP teaching team based in different countries around the world.
