iTOP Course

Integrated Oral Prophylaxis Hands-on Masterclass in Cape Town

Elizabeth Van der Ham | Riette Muller

Course overview

This collaborative course brings together SciVision’s expertise in clinical biofilm therapy and Curaden Academy's (Individually Trained Oral Prophylaxis) education system. The programme provides an integrated learning experience to enhance clinicians’ understanding of biofilm control, combining clinical treatment (chairside therapy) with practical patient self-care (home maintenance).

This collaborative program integrates SciVision’s clinical expertise in biofilm-directed therapy with the Individually Trained Oral Prophylaxis (iTOP) educational framework to provide a comprehensive, evidence-informed approach to preventive oral healthcare.

The course advances clinicians’ theoretical knowledge and clinical competence in biofilm management, emphasizing the relationship between professional mechanical plaque removal (PMPR) and structured patient self-care education. By combining contemporary scientific evidence, chairside clinical protocols, and behavioral coaching strategies for home care, the program promotes a preventive model that supports long-term oral health stability.

Participants will develop the skills needed to deliver personalized, patient-centered biofilm control strategies, improving treatment outcomes and fostering sustained behavior change in daily oral hygiene practices.
